This revolutionary device has the potential to reduce infarct size and improve clinical outcomes of these patients, while decreasing associated health care costs. Every year, 16 million people around the world suffer from a heart attack caused by a blockage in their coronary arteries, and approximately 6 million of these individuals have an AMI which requires immediate revascularization. It is inserted into the coronary sinus after revascularization and increases pressure in the heart venules and capillaries, without compromising the blood outflow. This elevated pressure improves oxygen delivery to the ischemic myocardium, reducing the infarct area and ultimately improving patient outcomes. Unlike other technologies, this catheter does not require an expensive console and can be used with standard catheterization laboratory equipment, making it simple and intuitive to use.
